A great Car seat to Rival Britax December 18, 2008 Amanda Suydam 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful seat I, and my child, love. We traded out our Britax Marathon for it and she has no desire to go back! She is two and half and still rear faces in it. Plus:
High top slots, there are FIVE sets of harness slots at 10", 12", 14", 16", and 18". At 35" she is still on the second ones up from the bottom.
Tons of supportive padding, at the hips, head and the harness straps. The small pads on the harness pad do a great job of giving her just enough space with the pillow but still allow her to use it comfortably. And these all come out when your child is older. The belly pad is MUCH nicer than Britax's and ACTUALLY stays where it should! And the head support is supposed to be a bit floppy. Just pull it up from behind child before you buckle them. It take a second to position. Would you want a piece of dense foam beside your head or a soft pillow?
High shell back for older kids. My five year old at 47" can sit in this seat (not that little sis will let her). Her shoulders touch but she is not as squished as the marathon, surprising considering how much deeper the side wings are.
The Side Impact Protection. The side wings are SOO deep! I feel like my daughter is actually sitting in this seat not on it. Yes, I cannot see her well in it because of them. But I am comfortable knowing she is safely secure and a properly used car seat it SAFER than leaving her alone in her crib!
The fabric is SOFT. And doesn't cause sweating as bad as the marathon.
Some have said they have problems installing but I have had no issues so far, you will probably need a towel or pool noodle.
It does not tether rear facing but it doesn't NEED to. The high base acts as a rebound bar to keep the seat from slinging forward.
Others say the straps tangle. So far it hasn't been as bad as the Marathon and with these I don't have to untwist them through the "HUGS" pads as well. If you always grab the straps from the shoulder and work your way down you'll find you will have no problems.
The harness adjust wonderfully and tucks away under the velcro pocket so my daughter won't play with it.
I also love the color scheme better. We got the "blush" so it it girly with out being obnoxiously so and matches the vehicle's interior.
I could go on forever about how much I like this seat and I am glad I took all the reviews I read with a grain of salt because I am nothing but pleased with this seat.
So impressed with this seat! March 19, 2009 Lauren (Reno, NV) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this Recaro Como two months ago and have not stopped loving it. I spent so many hours reading reviews and looking at car seats before I decided on this one. I am listing the Pros and Cons of this car seat from my perspective:
Pros:
-The seat truly has side impact protection. It is much deeper than the Britax seats and the wings come around to protect the child. They make it with a heavy duty plastic that does not move much when you pull it back and forth. When you do this with other car seats, you will be amazed at how flimsy they are.
-The microfiber covering is so soft and wonderful. Plus, it is very easy to take off and clean.
-This seat offers a lot more padding and comfort than other seats. It has an adjustable head rest that will adjust with your child. This allows for maximum comfort and prevents "floppy" heads.
-This seat is very solid and built very well. It is a tall seat but I see that as an advantage because it will be able to withstand more impact. When you install this seat, it does not move AT ALL which is a huge bonus in my eyes. The carseat I had previously moved a lot and seemed to be just barely hanging on. The Recaro Como installs easily with both LATCH and the seat belt. Also, although it is a tall seat it is relatively compact.
-The harness weight can hold 70 lbs!
-The carseat comes with extra padded shoulder pads and even a pad over the crotch area for extra comfort.
-The harness is a five point latch system which is easily adjusted to grow with your child. It also has a recline position for rear facing travel.
-It has a thick layer of impact resistant EPS foam instead of EPP.
Cons:
-The straps do tend to get twisted around easily.
-It is a tall seat so it can be hard to see around. However, I have a small Subaru Impreza and it fits fine in my car.
Overall, I love this seat and am very impressed with its safety features.
Great carseat for a great price March 6, 2009 E. Martinez (Omaha, NE) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been searching for a car seat that will allow my 3 year old to ride in a 5 point harness as long as possible. Right now, she weighs 43 pounds and is about 37 inches tall, and since outgrowing her Cosco Scenera, she has been riding in a high-back booster seat, which is not the safest option.
I purchased this car seat on-line last week for [...] shipped. I knew nothing about it, other than the fact that it will allow my child to be harnessed until she weighs 70 pounds! That enough convinced me that this was the seat for us! After some additional research, I discovered that some people have problems with twisting straps and that others find this seat to be too narrow. I was a little nervous, but figured for [...] I'd take my chances.
We received the seat yesterday. My first impression was, "Wow, this is a NICE LOOKING car seat!". It is rather large, but that is to be expected. I studied the manual, and within 15 minutes I had the straps adjusted and was ready to install the car seat into my '06 Hyundai Sonata.
Installation was a breeze and it took no time at all to get a nice, sturdy installation. I was pleased with how easy it was, actually! We went out on a little "test drive", to see what my daughter thought of the seat.
She loved it! She said she was very comfortable, and she loved riding so high up and being able to see out of the window. We did, however, remove the "head wings", because she did not like those at all. Recaro recommends use of the head wings on the lower 3 harness slots, but we're using the 4th slot. The manual says the seat is considered no less safe without the use of the head wings.
I honestly can't think of a single problem that we have had. The seat padding is very thick and plush, and I think it will make long drives much for comfortable for my daughter! I love how nice the shoulder pads are on the harness, no more straps digging in her neck!
I think Recaro did a wonderful job with this seat! I would definitely recommend this seat to a friend or purchase another one for use in another car.
Great car seat March 14, 2009 Alissa A. Bails (Wisconsin) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was tired of everyone telling me to buy a Britax for my 1 year old. They didn't fit her well. So I went looking for an alternative. I bought this seat several months ago and am now looking to purchase a second one for our other car.
Baby Bargains rated it high and I agree. The seat belt is easy to use has twisted a few times but less than others that I have dealt with. Did need a water noodle under the base to level when installed rear facing.
For the price you really can't beat it. Safety ratings are high --- compares up to all Britax but when I personally compare the quality of construction of Recarco is much higher.
A Great Seat, but Subaru Owners Beware March 12, 2009 Sarah E. (Santa Cruz, CA United States) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love this car seat. It is so comfortable for my baby, easy to adjust, and has an easy to clean cover. The only problem is that it does not fit in my car rear facing. I have a 2008 Subaru Outback with leather seats and it took two car seat technicians almost two hours to try to get it installed rear facing. We tried all three back seat positions, using seatbelts and LATCH, but couldn't get it right. It fits forward facing beautifully, but we won't be ready for that for awhile. That said, I left the fire station with an inexpensive Cosco seat that we could install safely rear facing. I plan on keeping the Signo until we are ready to face forward because I like the seat and we used it a couple of weeks until I sought out help installing it properly. I've heard that the newer model Outbacks are very challenging to install a rear facing car seat in.
